Mastering is the final step of audio post-production. Before getting your song mastered, please be sure it is mixed the way you want it.
The purpose of mastering is to balance the sonic elements of a "stereo mix" and optimize playback across all systems and media formats. For example: Top 40 terrestrial radio stations don't play songs that aren't mastered. When one song ends and another begins, the volume of those songs, regardless of genre, are the same. If a song that's not mastered is played after a song that has been mastered, the volume or "loudness" of the un-mastered song will be extremely quiet. |
